Hamilton & Inches celebrates 105 years as trophy makers and guardians for Scotland’s  annual farming and countryside show. Scotland’s luxury jewellery house will mark more than 105 years as silversmiths to The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland this week. Grant Macdonald Silversmiths have recently completed a commission  comprising a silver falcon. Their falcon was meticulously made by hand, every feather chased in by hand  to obtain a realistic  look and feel as possible. At every stage of production the Grant  Macdo nald  master craftsmen used  their skill and knowledge to make sure that each piece of the work was perfect.  Chasing is an ancient technique, from the noun to chase referring to a  fu rrow  or indent, the metal is  moved not removed. Using this technique, every feather is observed and recreated  gi ving  a sense of  depth and movement.

Goldsmiths’ Company’s Studio Internship Graduate Award

The Goldsmiths’ Company's Studio Internship Graduate Award ( SIGA ), open to recent graduates - within five years of graduation - aims to enhance the skills of the next generation of silversmiths.  Recipients are given the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths and receive funding to exhibit new work at a Goldsmiths’ Centre group show from 5-12 September 2017. The current SIGA recipients are Patrick Davison, Hamish Dobbie, Errin Quinn and Dominic Simon. SIGA The Goldsmiths’ Company 2017 Studio Internship Graduate Award         About the Award A Goldsmiths’ Company award open to two graduates (within 5 years of graduation) to support the next generation of silversmiths. The award offers the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths for 16 weeks (which can be undertaken on a part time basis) before creating an exhibition of work at the Goldsmiths’ Centre. On completion, a certificate will be awarded at a special ceremony at Goldsmiths’ Hall. Funding for Each Graduate Includes A maintenance living grant of £210 per week for a total of 16 weeks.

Goldsmiths’ Fair, the selling event and exhibition for fine jewellers and silversmiths, is launching a digital Fair in 2020. The Fair will provide an online platform for around 130 exhibitors and established visitors, 9,000 of who ordinarily attend the live event at the Goldsmiths’ Hall in the City of London, as well as to new audiences from around the world. Tools Library Survey – Request for participation

Bishopsland Educational Trust has amassed an extensive collection of over 3,000 hand tools and machinery generously donated by retired silversmiths or as a legacy gifted by their families. As a result of these gifts, we have created the ‘Tools Library’ initiative under the auspices of the Bishopsland charity. The Tools Library will protect, preserve and pass on hand tools for future generations – to collect, curate and care for them. The Goldsmiths’ Centre in London has awarded four jewellers and silversmiths a Business Catalyst (Small) Grant of £1,000 to accelerate their businesses to the next phase of growth. BATF are delighted to announce Tim Lukes of Lukes & Co as the winner of its silverware competition to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. A survey with 120 respondents carried out by  The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council  has found that Covid-19 is adversely impacting designer-makers across the UK, driving it to announce a series of new initiatives to support, connect and inspire isolated craftspeople during this time. Hazel Thorn's delicate and intricate works bear resemblance to shards of colourful, patterned eggshells. Her work in mixed-metal silversmithing has taken an interesting turn this year, after placements on an internship scheme run by the Goldsmiths’ Centre. Gang of thieves raid Cotswold Arts and Craft Museum

A gang of thieves launched a raid on the award-winning Court Barn Arts and Craft Museum and in what looks to be a premeditated crime, took off with a number of silver pieces dating back to 1900. The items taken range from pieces by architect and designer Charles Robert Ashbee (1863-1942), Hart Silversmiths who joined Ashbee in Campden in 1902 and who still make silver today and designer Robert Welch (1929-2000). Goldsmiths’ Fair 2016 Closes to Huge Success

The 34th edition of Goldsmiths’ Fair, the UK’s premier destination to view and buy fine jewellery and contemporary silver, closed its doors on Sunday afternoon. In what proved to be another successful year for the Fair, over 9,000 people, including royalty, members of the House of Lords, ambassadors, artists, gallerists, international collectors, and jewellery enthusiasts of all stripes, visited the event and sales were strong. The Goldsmiths' Company's 'Young Designer Competition'

The Goldsmiths’ Company is delighted to support Jacobs the Jewellers’ Young Designer Competition, a brilliant initiative focusing on emerging silversmiths and jewellers. Staged at the renowned Reading-based jewellery store from 6-30 June 2017, the competition will feature work from nine emerging designers from the Bishopsland Educational Trust. One new work of silver and one new piece of jewellery from each designer will be on display and the public will get to vote for its favourite pieces. The Young Designer Competition exhibition will also feature live craft demonstrations and there will be a VIP winner’s event on Friday 30 June. Inspired Event Bestowes 2017 Awards

The annual luxury silver and bespoke furniture exhibition, Inspired, has announced the winners of its 2017 awards to contemporary silversmiths and engravers.  Each year ,  the  Inspired  event  organis er,  The Festi val of S ilver, seeks  to promote, celebrate and nurture new talent and give recognition to this with a selection  of awards  presented at London’s Goldsmiths’ Centre .
